Woes of a Distal Tendon

Jeff comes home all the time with blue tape wrapped around knuckles and fingers. It's his "Duct Tape" for injuries at work. It fixes everything! I always see the wounds and wonder why he hasn't lost a finger to infection in the name of work. He never worries about it. Tapes it up, comes home and washes it up and life goes on. So when he called me on December 29th and said I needed to come and take him for stitches I knew it must be pretty bad. And it was.

Off we went to work med to discover the extent of his injury. Of course everyone was shocked that it was as bad as it was with gloves. (He never wears his gloves in the dairy, only in the freezer. For whatever reason [we're going with divine intervention and the presence of the Holy Ghost at this house] he didn't take them off that morning. I can only imagine what it would have looked like if he hadn't had the gloves.) It took 3 internal stitches and 10 external to put him back together again.

A few days later he complained of some tingling and a sore forearm. So at his follow up appointment Monday of this week they did some tests and decided that he needed to see a hand surgeon. They scheduled his appointment for Friday and we went our merry way.

Last night we got a phone call, asking Jeff to come in about 4 hours earlier than his scheduled appointment time, which we did.

End result: Jeff severed his Distal Tendon and a small nerve. He is having surgery Monday morning to repair the damage. And naturally Worker's Comp hasn't approved the surgery yet (which probably should have been done about a week ago and has to be done this next week) and wouldn't you know he's scheduled to have surgery in the one place that our insurance doesn't cover in Weber county.

Isn't that the way life always goes. It's crazy! Thankfully he didn't lose his thumb (did I forget to mention my cute hubby is a South Paw and he cut his left hand)!

Oh...and no writing for 4-6 weeks - his semester started last Monday. You can laugh or cry. We've been bursting at the seams!
